PAA continues to serve UCLA's Pilipino community through its alumni-student Mentorship Program.  To meet the growing demand for mentors, division coordinators were identified to facilitate mentor-mentee relationships within a particular career field (health, business, engineering, humanities, and law).  PAA fosters a close relationship with UCLA's Pilipino community. Division coordinators work closely with undergraduate Pilipino organizations such as UCLA Samahang Pilipino, Samahang Pilipino Education and Retention (SPEAR) project, Pilipinos for Community Health (PCH), Pilipino Business Student Association (PBSA), and Pilipinos In Engineering (PIE) to identify students seeking mentors.  This interaction facilitates communication between students and professionals, allowing an exchange of ideas on how to improve the mentorship program.  This relationship also allows the student organizations to tap into a wide array of speakers for meetings.  One event per quarter is held for all participants of the mentorship program.  Additionally, each division has its own career information dinner for each respective field.  Past activities included karaoke night, dinner at Jeepney Grill, an evening at Hollywood Park and a number of other informational dinners.

PAA's Mentorship Program is designed to add value to the lives, careers, and education of current UCLA students and alumni.  The program, open to any student or PAA member or friend, is structured to provide the best opportunity for a mentor-mentee relationship to flourish.  With ongoing and future involvement of the SPEAR program and UCLA's academic resource groups, PAA plans to start programs in LAW, PUBLIC POLICY, ARTS, and HUMANITIES, as well as any other fields which would meet the needs of students and alumni.

We Need Mentors Who Want To Give Back!!!

We need mentors from our alumni base who can give some of their time and who will be proactive in initiating and maintaining a nurturing relationship with students.  We believe that this program will enrich the lives of both parties, thus ensuring a continuum of mentors among current mentors and future graduates who will join PAA and give something back.

Our Direction and Goals:

  • To provide academic and professional development to Pilipino alumni and students 

  • To ensure a growing base of future graduates who have received tangible benefits from the program and will in turn be a mentor 

  • To maintain a nurturing relationship with students

Strategies: 

  • Maintain and foster a relationship with students that will lead them to balanced lives in terms of career, community, and culture 

  • Encourage students to network among themselves 

  • Provide academic and professional advice and alternatives
